Cal Poly CAFES Department

As a multimedia production specialist/videographer, I had the opportunity to create a department highlight video for Cal Poly's College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES). To start the project, I worked closely with CAFES faculty and staff to gather information on the college's history, vision, and future goals. This allowed me to develop a comprehensive concept and storyboard for the video, which was approved by the college's leadership team.

With the concept in hand, I went to work capturing footage of the college's facilities, research labs, and classrooms, as well as interviewing faculty, staff, and students to highlight the unique aspects of CAFES. I used a variety of techniques, including drone footage and time-lapse photography, to showcase the college's beauty and vitality.

Central Coast Aquarium

The Central Coast Aquarium video project was to find and lure dedicated individuals who want to work with marine animals. I wanted to create engaging and informative videos about the marine life and ecosystems of the Central Coast region. I was responsible for filming and editing footage of the aquarium's exhibits and conducting interviews with experts and educators to provide additional information and context. The final videos educate the public, promote conservation efforts, and raise awareness about the importance of preserving the ocean and its inhabitants.

Central Coast Aquarium: Brine Shrimp

I had the opportunity to work on the Brine Shrimp animation video for the Central Coast Aquarium. One of the key aspects of this video was incorporating a clear and engaging voiceover to explain the life cycle of brine shrimp. To accomplish this, I collaborated with the team at the Central Coast Aquarium to identify the key points that needed to be conveyed in the video.

After creating a detailed script and storyboard, I worked closely with a professional voiceover artist to ensure that the tone and delivery of the narration aligned with the desired feel of the video. This involved several rounds of recording and editing to perfect the timing and flow of the voiceover.

Unified Wine Symposium Highlight

As a multimedia production specialist, I have covered the Unified Wine and Grape Symposium, a leading industry event for the wine and grape sector. My role in covering this event involved capturing engaging video content, including interviews with industry experts and exhibitors. I also used my technical expertise to ensure that all equipment was in working order and that we were able to capture high-quality footage throughout the event. My goal was to produce a compelling video that highlighted the most important moments of the symposium, and I was able to achieve this by carefully selecting the most impactful clips and weaving them together into a narrative that showcased the wine and grape industry in a positive light.

For my Digital Communication in Agriculture and Science class, I created a commercial for Cal Poly Chocolates. We wanted to create a light-hearted clip for Valentine’s day.

The commercial both shows my technical skills behind the camera with the different angles achieved. I wanted to also highlight the graphics and animations used.

Blue Water Task Force

I was fortunate enough to be able to work with the Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) from Avila Beach California. Here we created a video for the CAFES research video series. The BWTF wanted to highlight their research being conducted on safe water testing. I got to spend the whole day moving from different areas around SLO county seeing how their water is tested.

Working with the Cal Poly CAFES, I got to work with the department to highlight certain specializations, unique majors, and potential career paths. I worked with David Headrick, a professor at Cal Poly, on what an entomologist would start with by surveying cropland for potential dangers towards the harvest.

I got the pleasure of working with David Headrick on showcasing what an entomologist would do when surveying cropland.
